At least three different research teams based in California, the Netherlands and Germany are developing an AI that can “decipher” brain activity and translate it into speech.

The aim is to allow patients who are paralyzed, recovering from a stroke, or otherwise suffer from vocal disabilities to communicate, via electrodes that measure brainwave activity. The electrode data can then be “translated” into computer-generated speech with the help of AI.
